Following graduation Mike joined the Midlands based office of S.P. Christie & Partners -Consulting Engineers where, under a supervised training scheme, he gained varied experience in the design and detailing of structures in all conventional types of construction materials. Over a period of 15 years Mike progressed from being an Assistant to a Senior Engineer, with the responsibility of supervising design teams, before being appointed to manage a regional office of the practice in Manchester.
In 1988 Mike became a founding Partner in the Diamond Wood Partnership (Consulting Engineers) where he continued his professional development in this senior position, taking responsibility for the procurement, design production and programming of structural schemes, including large-scale industrial and commercial projects.
Joined HBL Associates in 2006 as a Partner in the practice and, overall, has over 30 years experience in Consulting Engineering and in the design and supervision of structural projects both in the private and public sectors. These projects are wide ranging and include educational buildings, churches, health care / medical centres, leisure, commercial and retail developments, warehousing / industrial and housing (residential) schemes, in varied locations including inner-city and brownfield sites.
In more recent times sustainable development has become increasingly important and Mike has gained particular expertise and experience with the specific design and detailing requirements of timber frame structures.
Directly involved in school building projects of differing type and size and was the supervising Partner on a new £7 million junior school scheme, recently completed and delivered on budget. He is currently engaged in the initial design stages of an innovative £10 million school project which has been submitted for Planning adjudication.
