Henry joined S.P. Christie & Partners Civil & Structural Engineers as a Graduate Engineer in 1984. He gained extensive experience on refurbishment projects and large new build industrial developments. In 1989 Henry was appointed as a Technical Director with responsibility for the Manchester branch of the practice.
Following the closure of that office, Henry worked as a self employed Structural Engineer on smaller new build and refurbishment projects including retail, offices, bars, clubs, restaurants, schools, churches and residential developments.
In 1991, Henry went on to form HBL Associates and helped to expand the practice to its current size.
Although experienced in all aspects of Civil and Structural Engineering, he has also gained considerable expertise on difficult refurbishment and conversion projects and has worked on many historical buildings.
