Biffa Waste Services Transfer Station
Overview
We worked closely with Biffa Waste Services on their St Helens project since its conception in 2008. Originally the site was earmarked for a MRF and together with Biffa we developed a whole site layout including the internal processes. Due to the development of Biffa’s Super MRF at Trafford Park (see HBL Project Profile) the St Helens facility was changed to a Transfer Station.
Working with Biffa we further developed the scheme , including internal and external layouts and process mapping. The scheme had difficult ground conditions and we adopted HBL Associates optimum weighbridge layout, bespoke drainage design and details suitable for this demanding environment.
Service Delivery
Following on from the pre-contract services, HBL Associates had the overall responsibility for the successful delivery of the project, supported by a tried and tested support team. We acted as ‘Lead Consultant’ co-ordinating the design Team.
The contract was tendered on a ‘Traditional’ basis, with Contractor Design Elements. We carried out the Civil and Structural design and details, along with administering the contract during the site works.
The construction process had to take account of the existing Biffa Operations on site, HBL Associates provided ‘site support’ services to act as liaison between Biffa and the Main Contractor to ensure the smooth integration. The project was successfully delivered on time and to budget.
