HBL’s ‘got talent’ on latest David Walliams theme park experience
Underlining its longstanding relationship with the Alton Towers Resort, Manchester-based civil and structural engineering consultancy HBL Associates has confirmed it will work on the theme park’s latest project, a partnership with comedian, actor and best-selling author David Walliams, to bring the magic of his children’s books to life from Spring 2020.
The project, centred around the existing Cloud Cuckoo Land area of the site, will include one unique headline attraction as well as a number of other attractions involving many of Walliams’ best-loved characters and storylines, within the theme park and the Resort’s hotels.
Construction work at the park began earlier this year and, working alongside Merlin Entertainments’ ‘Magic Making’ creative team and other external partners, HBL Associates will draw on its expertise in the very latest theme park technology and design to deliver the attraction by next Spring, when the resort celebrates 40 years as the UK’s leading theme park.
In addition to his comedy work and position as a judge on Britain’s Got Talent, Walliams is currently the UK’s most popular children’s author, having sold more than 33 million books since his first novel was published in 2008.
HBL Associates have worked as approved consultants for Merlin Entertainments for over 10 years, including several attractions at Alton Towers, and its project manager, Andy Smith, believes this latest David Walliams project is another inspired choice:
“The teams at Alton Towers and Merlin Entertainments continue to identify popular, contemporary themes that will appeal not just to children but to the whole family. David Walliams is currently one of the country’s most popular and recognised authors and entertainers, and the characters and storylines from his novels lend themselves perfectly to a creative theme park experience.”
