HBL Associates drives forward with Pirelli tyre plant expansion

2nd December, 2019

Ongoing expansion of the Pirelli tyre factory in Carlisle has helped Manchester civil and structural engineering consultancy, HBL Associates maintain its long-standing relationship with the world’s leading tyre producer, securing two new extension contracts.

Pirelli’s continued focus on the high value speciality and super speciality tyre market has seen increased market demand lead to the need for expansion of the rubber processing and associated facility at its Dalston Road plant.

The proposed production machinery and processes will be similar to the existing facilities and the new plant extensions will be integrated with existing services and production material handling activities. This requires construction of a new three storey 30m high steel framed mixer facility to extend the existing Banbury Mixer Room, and an additional one storey portal frame extension, representing a total of 10,600m2 of new building works.

Work on the multi-million pound manufacturing plant extensions, which are expected to not only secure existing employment but create significant new jobs at Pirelli, started in May this year and is on schedule for completion by February 2020.

HBL’s director, Abdul Ben Ghalbon, who has worked with Pirelli for a number of years and is helping to manage this current project commented: “HBL has maintained a long term relationship with Pirelli over several years and this latest expansion of its Carlisle plant, currently celebrating its 50th anniversary, has created two important extension work contracts for our company’s industrial division.”
